Bahraich Violence: Priyanka Gandhi Urges CM Adityanath

Communal tensions escalate after youth killed in Durga idol immersion procession

Bahraich violence

In the wake of rising communal tensions in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, Congress general-secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called for immediate and strict action from chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Violence erupted on Sunday in the Mahrajganj area during a Durga idol immersion procession in Mansoor village after a dispute over loudspeaker music. The clash led to the death of a youth and injuries to several others, with stone pelting and firing adding to the chaos. Around 30 individuals have been detained so far.

Priyanka Gandhi expressed her concern on social media, calling the administration’s response “unfortunate” and urging for immediate steps to restore peace. She appealed to both the public to maintain calm and the authorities to act decisively.

Chief minister Adityanath condemned the violence, vowing that those responsible would not be spared. Bahraich police, under SP Vrinda Shukla, have intensified security in the area, and officials, including senior police officers, are working to control the situation.

The incident has sparked heightened tension, with angry crowds setting shops on fire. Police are currently pursuing anti-social elements to prevent further escalation. Authorities have registered a case, with one individual identified as Salman under investigation for allegedly firing shots from his property.

The situation remains tense, but efforts are underway to restore order and bring those responsible to justice.
