In a strategic response to the rising demand for travel during the bustling year-end period, the Taiwan High-Speed Railway (THSR) has announced an expansion of its weekend services. Starting from November 1st to December 29th, 2024, THSR will add extra trains to cater to commuters and travelers alike, particularly those attending large-scale events or returning home for the holidays.
Additional Train Schedules to Accommodate Increased Demand
THSR is set to introduce 27 to 33 extra trains every weekend, which will culminate in 273 additional trains by the end of December. This includes a robust schedule of 122 southbound and 151 northbound trains, strategically timed during peak travel periods. The added services aim to alleviate congestion and ensure that travelers can enjoy a smooth journey, whether they’re heading home or attending weekend events.
Flexible and Convenient Travel Options
To enhance the travel experience, the additional trains will feature unreserved seating options on specific carriages, namely carriages 11 and 12. Passengers can easily purchase unreserved tickets through the T-Express mobile ticketing app, making the boarding process more convenient.
Some of these additional trains may arrive after midnight, with the last train scheduled to reach the terminal station by 0:30 a.m. This extended service will provide more flexibility for late-night travelers and event-goers.
Utilizing the T-Express Mobile App for a Seamless Journey
For a hassle-free ticketing experience, passengers are encouraged to utilize the T-Express mobile app. Here’s how to make the most of this convenient tool:
- Download the T-Express App: Install the app on your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play.
- Enable Bluetooth: Turn on Bluetooth when you arrive at THSR stations to facilitate easy access to your tickets.
- Purchase Your Tickets: Use the app to buy unreserved tickets, which will generate a QR code for easy boarding.
By leveraging this app, travelers can save valuable time and streamline their journey, enhancing their overall travel experience.

The introduction of extra weekend trains by Taiwan High-Speed Railway is a welcomed development for commuters and travelers during this busy season. With increased frequency and improved ticketing options, THSR is committed to providing a seamless travel experience that meets the needs of its passengers. Whether you’re traveling for work or leisure, the expanded train services are sure to enhance your journey.
